Kamiros was, with Lindos and Ialysos, one of the three ancient cities of the island, and an important commercial center during the Archaic period. The three cities founded the city of Rhodes in 408 BC.
Its ruins were discovered in 1929.
It was built without any fortifications, on the hillside overlooking the sea.
