WALK TO St. NICHOLAS' TOWER [06]

ON OUR MAP:   07

A walk along the pier with the three windmills will bring you to the fort of Saint Nicholas.

It was built between 1464 and 1467 by the Grand Master Zacosta at the end of the natural mole to guard Mandraki, which was the military harbour. The fort was named after the saint patron of sailors.

After the siege of Rhodes by Sultan Mehmet in 1480, Grand Master d'Aubusson added a bastion around the tower transforming it into a guard fortress on the sea.

Although because of extensive works it is currently not open for visitors, the walk there is beautiful and the view quite rewarding.
